Keynote Presentation – Deep-Dive on Disruptive Innovation Scott Anthony, Senior Partner, Innosight In 1995, a little-known Harvard Business School Professor named Clayton Christensen co-authored an article in the Harvard Business Review called, “Disruptive Technologies: Catching the Wave.” This article introduced the idea of market disruption, where someone would reshape an existing market or create a new one by making the complicated simple or the expensive affordable. Christensen went on to further explore the idea of disruptive change through seminal books such as The Innovator’s Dilemma, The Innovator’s Solution, The Innovator’s DNA, and How Will Your Measure Your Life?. In 2011 and 2013 Thinkers50 named him the world’s most influential management thinker. It is now clear that disruption causes dilemmas that can cause great firms to fail, and disruption creates opportunities to build powerful growth engines that can renew and reenergize companies. Scott Anthony had the privilege of calling Christensen a teacher, mentor, supervisor, co-author, colleague, and, most importantly, friend. This discussion deep dives on lessons Scott has learned studying, advising, and working to build businesses based on the concepts of disruptive innovation. Specific discussion topics:

How to Manage effective change programs – the bridge between strategy, planning and execution David McDonald, The Bridge International The challenge for organisations to continue to drive results (Cultural, Client and Commercial) out of current operations but also have the capacity to design, deliver and execute on both short term and strategic change initiatives, is only getting greater. For many organisations recent challenges have highlighted areas of inefficiency in clinical delivery with reduced capacity, cost issues with inefficient processes and patient satisfaction levels tested. This workshop will support delegates to identify the ‘how’ and ‘when’ by teaching the tools to effectively implement change through a series of routines and change management practices, to ensure the right things are being worked on in the right order. |
Managing Fatigue in the workplace Tony Perkins Fatigue can affect an employee’s health and increase the chances of physical and mental injury within the workplace, which may have serious results in a hospital situation. This workshop will cover the key topics of: What causes fatigue, how to identify when fatigue is a hazard in the workplace, how to consult with employees to prevent fatigue, and a risk management approach to addressing mental and physical demands.

The Coming Cyber Risk Landscape for Day Hospital Owners and Managers David Hansen, National Manager, Mediprotect Nitesh Patel, Principal, Gilchrist Connell Tim Barratt, Senior Underwriter, Emergence Insurance Cyber risk management requires more than a technology solution. Apart from complying with legal obligations, risk aware owners and managers understand that avoiding complaints and building trust with customers and suppliers helps to maximise commercial benefits and ultimately improves their business in the long term. This workshop will provide a brief overview of the profile of threat actors and the new age business model of ransomware before considering the significant impact to businesses that have experienced a cyber-incident, even if it is ultimately shown that no data was infiltrated and there was minimal downtime. With this background, we will look at the current Privacy Act Review and Ransomware Payments Bill and the significant impacts these could have to your business and why now is the time to look beyond a technology solution for your cyber risks. To help contextualise why it is important to have holistic risk management in place no matter what size your organisation, we will conclude with a panel session that walks you through the basics of a cyber-incident response. This will incorporate legal, financial and reputational risk perspectives. With this information attendees will be able to more confidently engage their IT consultants and risk advisers to help ensure not only your legal obligations are being met, but that your business remains healthy in the long term should (or when) you suffer a cyber-incident. |
How Leaders can Empower Innovation from the Frontline Caitlin Ziegler The best innovation from any industry usually comes from those at the frontline. With a workforce faced with increasing change, regulation and day-to-day pressures, how can you help drive an innovative mindset? How do you empower your people to fail safely and develop better ways of doing things for their patients? This workshop looks at how leaders can empower their people to innovate and experiment to drive positive business and patient outcomes, all while developing critical skills on the job. We’ll look at case studies of how this has been implemented in other organisations and a demonstration of how you can take some of this approach back to your team. ‘An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.’ – Edward De Bono
