Dr Matthew Crane

Matthew is an actuary in EY’s Health and Human Services team based in Canberra.

He has extensive experience working with government in developing reforms for funding in the private healthcare and aged care sectors. He has a deep understanding of the rules and regulations relating to private health insurance from his previous role as lead actuary for the industry regulator, PHIAC.

Recently, Matthew led EY’s study into Private Health Insurance Default Benefits arrangements, involving extensive consultation across the private hospital sector. He was also co-author of the Actuaries Institute’s Green Paper How to Make Health Insurance Healthier released in 2019. Matthew has a PhD in Pure Mathematics and has also worked for a large life insurer in the UK.
