Jenny Blaikie

With a diverse background in nursing and working across areas such as intensive care, Community Health, Defence Health and Education, Jenny has over 30 years first hand experience in how people and communities can be affected by mental health problems.

Growing up in various remote communities of Papua New Guinea, Jenny has travelled extensively and lived in numerous countries amongst communities of different social, religious and ethnic backgrounds. Through her experience, she has developed a strong sense of compassion, tolerance, empathy and respect. As an educator and trainer, she worked with Indigenous nursing students on Thursday Island and has trained and mentor volunteers at Orange Sky Australia.

With strong ties to the community, she volunteers for organisations such as Orange Sky Australia and Sunny Street. Her life experiences have let her towards opportunities that allow her to help others and she was quickly drawn to Mental Health First Aid.

Working with People Smartz Pty Ltd, she trains others to become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider on behalf of Mental Health First Aid Australia (MHFA). MHFA courses are evidence-based and go through a process of continuous evaluation, providing participants with learning opportunities and skills to offer first aid for a mental health problem.
