Join us at the Day Hospitals Australia National Conference, which features an intensive 3 day program that will explore innovative strategies and solutions to address headwinds facing the day hospital sector.

The Day Hospitals Australia 2023 National Conference will be held at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane, from Wednesday 30 August to Friday 1 September 2023. Additional speakers and panellists will be added to the following Preliminary Program as they are confirmed.

The Day Hospital sector continues to face ongoing challenges with the current accreditation system which is a one size fits all system for all public and private hospitals irrespective of their scope and associated risks. Presenters in this panel discussion will examine issues day hospitals face with the current system, and the need for a fit for purpose accreditation that reflects the model of care delivered by day hospitals in Australia.

Best known for her long and successful swimming career, Lisa Curry AO has competed in three Olympic Games, two World Championships and three Commonwealth Games and her competitive swimming career spanned an awe-inspiring 23 years and saw her ranked in the top 25 swimmers in the world every year she competed. She held Australian and Commonwealth records in every stroke (except backstroke) from 50 – 400mts, a feat no other Australian swimmer has ever achieved. She was also the first swimmer to represent Australia at Commonwealth and Olympic Games as a mother. At the age of 30 with 2 small children, Lisa swam the fastest ever at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and rates this as the highlight of her career.

The Prostheses List and PHI reforms including Default Benefits, Medicare Levy Surcharge, PHI Rebate, and Lifetime Health Cover are expected to impact both consumers and private hospital operations. There has been a delay in the removal of General Use Items from the Prostheses List until 1 July 2024, requiring the development of an alternate funding mechanism. In this discussion, we analyse the important aspects of these reforms and the impacts these will have on the sector.

Dr Gareth Andrews is a Consultant Anaesthetist at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and Dr Richard Stephenson is a Consultant Emergency Physician in Dunedin on New Zealand’s South Island.

Gareth and Richard have a passion of adventure and exploration that spans many years. They have had the privilege of being involved with several successful expeditions through harsh and unforgiving environments.

Their inspiring stories of overcoming challenges and exploring beautiful, natural wilderness areas give us an insight into why these adventurers continue to pursue their dreams. They have most recently completed a Full Unsupported South Pole Ski Expedition of 1404km in 66 days in Antarctica.
